Don’t Give Advice – Share Your Experience

The Subtle art of not giving a fuck

A core practice of the Forums I run is that we don’t give each other advice, but rather, we share our own experience around the topic and then let the person decide what is the best course of action for themselves. In other words, we let them slay their own dragons. I talked about this in a prior post > https://tinyurl.com/vvb7ut3.

I recently found a quote from Mark Manson in his best selling book “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A Fu*k” that highlights another reason why it’s dangerous to give advice

“There is no correct dogma or perfect ideology. There is only what your experience has shown you to be right for you—and even then, that experience is probably somewhat wrong too. because you and I and everybody else all have differing needs and personal histories and life circumstances, we will all inevitably come to differing “correct” answers about what our lives mean and how they should be lived.”
