Successful coaching comes from asking the right questions at the right time. Over the years, after coaching 100s of people for their presentations, I’ve built up a list of questions that I often use to keep the conversation going and dig deeper. Here are 10 of those questions, and I’ll share more over time.
- Tell me more about the background of this situation?
- What led up to this point?
- What do you think is the root cause of this situation?
- How much of this situation is personal vs professional vs family?
- What part of this situation is most confusing to you? Why?
- Have you ever experienced something like this in other parts of your life? What was it?
- How might your own actions add to the difficulty of this situation? What part of this situation can you own yourself?
- How does the situation make you feel when you think and talk about it?
- Give me three feelings you have around this situation. Describe each feeling and why you chose that feeling.
- If nothing changes with the situation, what happens 3 months, 6 months, 1 year from now?
